✅ Benefits of an EU Trademark

  • Covers all 27 EU countries with one application

  • Simplifies brand protection for international businesses

  • Required for access to some e-commerce programs like Amazon Europe

  • Establishes priority rights and enhances brand credibility

🧭 Step-by-Step Guide to EU Trademark Registration

Step 1: Determine Eligibility

Anyone (individual or business) from any country can apply for an EU trademark. You don’t need to be based in Europe.

Step 2: Conduct a Trademark Search

Use the eSearch tool on EUIPO’s website to make sure your desired trademark isn’t already registered: https://euipo.europa.eu/

Step 3: Prepare Application Details

You’ll need:

  • Trademark name/logo

  • Owner’s name and address

  • Goods/services classification (Nice Classification system)

  • Priority claim (if you’ve registered in another country previously)

Step 4: Submit Your Application

Apply online through EUIPO’s website. Basic cost (as of 2025):

  • 850 EUR for one class

  • 50 EUR for the second class

  • 150 EUR per class after the second

Step 5: Examination and Publication

EUIPO examines the application. If accepted, it’s published in the EU Trademark Bulletin. Third parties have 3 months to file an opposition.

Step 6: Registration Certificate

If no oppositions arise (or are resolved), your trademark is registered and valid for 10 years (renewable).

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Trademarks must be distinctive and not descriptive

  • Registering an EU trademark doesn’t cover non-EU countries

  • Consider also registering nationally or through the Madrid Protocol if you operate globally

🚀 Start Building Your European Brand Today
